TRENDS ACCORDING TO HUE® LEGWEAR

The short skirt and dress ruled the Spring 2007 runways…with the leg continuing to be of primary focus. Additionally, proportions and layering remained key with skinny pants/leggings layered under baby doll or A-line mini-dresses, touting a continued market for footless tights/leggings.
While legwear was minimal in New York except for on Anna Sui’s runway and anklets seen at Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler and Luella, it had a strong presence in Europe.
The designers who showed legwear on their runways made a serious statement, pairing it with almost every one of their spring looks.
These designers included:
• Karl Lagerfeld (lacy openwork in black or white)
• Gaultier (fishnet footless in rainbow of colors)
• Yves Saint Laurent (classic fishnets)
• D&G (colored opaques)
• Anna Sui (torn fishnet & sheer capris; striped & sheer leg tubes)
• Givenchy (striped leg bandages; all-over tribal patterns)
• Marni (capri leggings)
• Viktor & Rolf (sheer footless with metallic embellishment)
• Marc by Marc Jacobs & Proenza Schouler paired anklets
with wrap-up sandals
Lacy Nets
All-over pretty openwork styles, as seen at Karl Lagerfeld and YSL, provided
an interesting contrast to spring’s futuristic, streamlined fashions.
Fishnet Footless
Gaultier and Anna Sui made a major statement with their springtime version
of the footless tight. Anna Sui’s torn fishnet footless capris added edge to what was a pretty, feminine spring collection, while Gaultier’s versions were sportier and shown in a kaleidoscope of colors.
Shimmery Metallic Legs
Surface shine played an important role in spring fashion, replacing embellished detailing with silk charmeuse and satin the new embellishment. Shine carried over into legwear in the form of lame leggings and bike shorts (Heatherette and Matthew Williamson), as well as mirror and metal embellishments on leggings (Viktor & Rolf and Balenciaga).
Rubber/Patent leggings & stirrup pants
Patent leather trim and leggings added a futuristic shine to looks, especially in Europe.
Sheerness
Sheerness played a significant role in overall spring looks with sheer layers addingdimension and contrast. Note that in terms of legwear, this manifested itself more in a cut & sewn, gathered look versus sheer hosiery.
Opaques
Following upon the heels of their overwhelming popularity in Fall 2006, opaques continued to have some presence on the spring runways, both in black and bright colors, at D&G, Miu Miu, Etro and Pucci.
Anklets
Anklets paired with ankle-wrapped sandals popped up in New York on the runways of directional designers Marc, Luella and Proenza Schouler. Also notable wereathletic-inspired tube socks.
Innovative/Interesting silhouettes
Have been predicting leg tubes and stirrup pants would trend as result of the current footless craze. Important to note Anna Sui/Givenchy (leg tubes & leg bandage sheers) and D&G (stirrup pants) as directional, especially as a means of mimicking SP07 major footwear trends of gladiator straps/buckles up the legs as well as spring ankle and knee-hi boots.
